Size DOES Matter!

JR Goes Up Boost Hill

After all the time spent wanting to see how far we could push our trusty old IHI turbo, we got a killer deal on a new hybrid, so we went for it. Don't worry, JR's still-perfect condition IHI will soon have a great new home in Katie's Ladybird. Check out the size difference between the old and the new breathing aids.

Since we're going to use an external wastegate with the new turbo, some mods to our Rod's header were in order. We fabbed and installed a wastegate tube in the header right between number three and four cylinders. It'll make spark plug changes interesting, but hey - it's a header; things are supposed to be interesting! Fab and TIG by Tom.

Then we bolted the header and turbo in place on the engine so we could get spacing and elbow angles correct. The new turbo looks good there! Whoo Hoo, JR's gonna' kick some serious bootie! You can see the elbow on the last shot.

Here are some pictures of the elbow and T-3 exhaust flange.

The finished product. Exhaust elbow with O2 sensor bung and wastegate connection. IMHO it's truly a work of art, Tom is a real craftsman!
